Merriments Gardens

Merriments Gardens are just off the A21 near Hurst Green. It started out just as a Plant Nursery and grew over time. I thought the garden was just the normal-sized garden but in fact is about four acres which include a Hot border, Spring Border, Formal Garden, Jewelled Garden, Bog Garden, Monet Pond, Golden Border, Hornbeam Bower and Bird hide for the garden twitchers!

The Plant Nursery also has a restaurant, so a coffee and cake is a must. It must be good as there are many people around, like bees' around a honeypot.

There is plenty of seating around the garden, so you can find a quiet spot to relax or just read a book. If you like the sound of running water, there are ponds and watch the fish swim by.

If you find an unusual plant you can ask the gardens about it, and they will be able to get you one, I think it's a good idea to see the plants growing, so you can see what the plant likes best in soil and garden position. Then you have the colour combination and companion planting to think about.

If you get stuck on planting combinations and colour matching, there are plenty of books and on the internet to guide you.

My advice would be to walk about it the least twice, there is always something you have missed and if you are taking pictures nine times out of ten there is someone in the shot, so move on and come back.
