Dover Castle

I went to Dover Castle, and I had to book like everything else to get in and arrived twenty minutes early just for the queues for the car park which was not that busy which was a surprise as they have been heavily advertising it on the radio. Just before that I visited the site where Louis Bleriot landed in 1909, even back then they are trying to get in! Only joking... The first to make the channel crossing and got £1,000 for doing so.

I do have to say this is my first booking under my fem name Julie Smith which is printed on my ticket, I am so happy with that, and it worked. I was stopped at the ticket office like we all have to do, and this elderly woman asked for my Christian name and what time was I was to arrive, I was holding up my ticket at the car window, but she just confirmed my full name and let me in. Furthermore, I think I smiled all the way up the driveway.

I found a spot to park and walked towards the ticked office where the National Trust was trying to get everyone to sign up, I would if I could and had the time to visit all the places. I already had my ticket in my hand if I was challenged, but I just walked through and went into the castle grounds. Likewise, I decided to do the castle first, but that would involve wearing a face mask, I don't have a problem with that except it rubs off your makeup and make you sweat around your mouth.

So I kept it on as much as I could as I went through the castle and up and down the spiral staircases, had to go to the top just to take pics. After I finished shaping everything in sight, as I do, I made it out of the main part of the castle and headed for the ladies (loo), luckily there wasn't a queue for that as well! Headed for a cubicle and locked the door and got out my makeup bag and put my face back on! I also had a twinkle as I was there. I washed my hands and left.

Not only that, but I continued my tour around the castle, and It was a bit windy hence my hair in the pictures is all over the place, but it was dry. It wasn't overly crowed, just a few screaming kids running around followed by screaming parents! I didn't bother with the gift shop or café as it would mean me putting on a mast again and going through the trouble of going to the ladies again and more makeup!

I just ended up going around taking pictures, there was a Spitfire doing a victory roll over Dover, I think it was a double setter by the close-up of my photos. Furthermore, I was surprised that hardly anyone looked up to see it, which was a shame. I can say that France is still there in the distance as I saw it, and it's in one of my pictures with the ferries at sea. I went up on to the viewing platform at the edge of the cliff, to prove I'm a girl at heart I could look over the edge and look down, I was quite distracted by my hair making sure it's presentable and still on! Not only that, but I think I would have jumped off the edge if it came off! Luckily it didn't and continued my way around the castle.

The underground Hospital and War rooms are closed, I wasn't that concerned as I have seen it all before with friends a long time ago and got the fridge magnet to prove it! Over all, it was a nice day out, was it worth the £17? Just about! The parking was free, just wished the main castle gave a longer tour inside.
